After taking in the ambience of the palace I travelled to Nubra Valley. This is 3 hours journey from main Leh. Imagine having vast lands of
nothing but roads that seems to be leading to just one destination. So when I reached Leh I decided to hire a bike and take my trip around the place by bike. This would give me a lot of time on
my own enjoying the view and experience a calming bike ride. The roads here are narrow however best for a bike ride. It makes this so much more in perspective.
I of course hired a guide as I didn’t know the place and the language. He was wonderful as he knew different routes. I was able to form a very friendly bond with him. He told me various stories
of the place. Once I reached the main valley road I saw the sign and almost was in tears. It was like a beautiful end to a long travel. However I knew that it was just the first day here and I
would go through an emotional turmoil before calming down.
Entering the Karakorum region from Leh
Nubra valley is a desert and there is little vegetation. The sand here is something different altogether. There is a whitish feel and different from the sea sand that you would normally see. On a given day there may be many tourists and you will see people playing on the plane lands. If you come here early or during evenings you may see the clouds almost touching you.
This is a desert and most of the places have no vegetation. You would see that the vegetation is around the river beds. This is where you will find many farms which have wheat and other form of
pulses. There is also blood Apples which you will find in this region. The contrast between the dry planes and the vegetation is absolutely beautiful. We just sat on the Shyok River contemplating
our past actions and what our future is.
