After we had made ourselves comfortable at the hotel, we were looking forward to visit the tourist attractions in the city. So we decided to visit the Ramakrishna mission beach or the RK beach
which is located at Vizag, in Andhra Pradesh. It is one of the best tourist spots in Visakhapatnam and plenty of tourists come here every year for leisure activities like sunbathing and relaxing on the beaches as well as active marine tourism
activities such as swimming, snorkeling, surfing and beach volleyball.
As we reached the RK beach Sanvi was very excited as it was her first visit to a beach. She was noticing every small detail of the beach, from the sea shells to the tiny foot prints that were getting imprinted as she walked on the sand. Other attractions that draw tourist to this beach are the Kali temple, an aquarium, Visakha museum and a couple of road side restaurants that offer delicious sea food.
The best known feature of this beach is the INS Kursura Submarine museum. It displays the eponymous submarine for the public. This beach is jointly administered by Visakhapatnam Urban development
authority (VUDA) and Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC). The Kalvari Class submarine was in commission from 1967- 2003 and was
operated by the Indian Navy.
Out of four submarines, currently none is operational and one of these has been preserved in this museum for public display and beach access. The INS Kursura has a length of 91.3 meters. The sail of the lead vessel is also exhibited by the RK museum. I was very delighted to see the huge structure in real and had goose bumps imagining how it would have felt while sailing underwater in this metallic vessel.
We also visited the nearby temple that was devoted to the deity Kali. Sanvi was very happy on seeing the colorful fishes and other aquatic life forms as we visited the aquarium which was located
in the vicinity. We also tried some of the local cuisine at a nearby restaurant. The sea food offered by them was exquisite and mouth watering.
It was food for appetite. We spent our whole day on the Ramakrishna mission beach and then watched the sun set down the horizon. It was an amazing scene to witness. Hereafter we headed back to our hotel Four Points by Sheraton and after having a light supper retired to our bed.
