University of Mumbai – Ocean of Knowledge!

After spending about two hours in the National Gallery our next visit was to the Fort campus of University of Mumbai. Public are not allowed to enter the premises but as my husband has a friend who works there as a Professor, we had an opportunity to visit the prestigious campus. It took about ten minutes for us to reach the campus. Our friend was waiting our arrival and as soon as we reached the entrance, the security stopped us for a security check. We referred to our friend and immediately the security spoke to him over the telephone for a confirmation.

Soon we entered and began walking through the vast campus. At a distance, Prof. Vimal (my husband’s friend) was waving his hands to us. The campus seemed very quiet, as it was winter vacation. We could see the majestic Rajabai Clock Tower within the campus. Prof. Vimal told us that the campus deals only with the administration work of the University. University Campus in Kalina Santacruz handled all the academic departments. I was thrilled to be within the campus as it is one of the rare opportunities. He took us into the building and through an old buildings, it is well- maintained and recalls the ancient Gothic architecture.

The building has an elegant and large convocation hall. Prof.Vimal told us that major ceremonies of convocation are held in the hall and that they have opportunities to meet great scholars there. Then he accompanied us through various departments that handled public relations, student services, co-curricular activities, sports, training and placement and so on.  University of Mumbai is one of the oldest, which was established in 1857 and holds a number of credits and glories in its name.

The campus has a huge library with a wonderful collection of books. It is named as Jawaharlal Nehru Library and the collection of books have three major divisions- humanity, social science and pure and applied science. I was fortunate to have an opportunity to visit the ocean of knowledge, which give birth eminent scholars.  It was a wonderful day and we thanked Prof. Vimal for giving this opportunity. We thanked him for a great day…
